About Buffalo
For those who take the challenge of outdoor activities beyond the extent of the casual summer enthusiast, performance clothing is a serious business.
Whether that activity is mountaineering, climbing, hill walking, skiing, multi terrain biking or canoeing, function not fashion is the main criterion when it comes to outdoor clothing.
The Buffalo range of British made, outdoor performance clothing and sleeping bags are designed for use in a variety of activities and conditions, including the very worst winter weather. The quality and performance are recognised by Mountain Rescue Teams, the Emergency Services, the Association of Mountain Instructors and round the world yacht crews, for whom performance outdoor clothing is a matter of life and death.
How Buffalo Works
Buffalo products were originally designed as a one layer system of outdoor winter clothing to replace the numerous layers usually worn by climbers, fell runners and hill walkers in winter conditions. Due to the comfort and simplicity of the system, it wasn't long before it was used in many other outdoor activities. As a result of this cross over, Buffalo went on to design performance outdoor clothing and sleeping bags for specific activities, developing the fabrics further to accommodate other climatic conditions. The result is a range of high quality, performance products designed to give maximum comfort with minimum fuss.
Pile/Pertex System
To be comfortable in adverse conditions you need to be dry and warm. The concept behind the Buffalo DP System is to keep the wearer comfortable no matter what nature has in store.
Moisture causes chilling – so rain and perspiration need to be kept away from the skin. To do this clothing must repel moisture from the outside, whilst eliminating it on the inside.
Whilst insulating the wearer from the cold, our pile fabric lining wicks moisture away from the body onto the outer shell. This densely woven fabric then disperses the moisture over its surface area, where it evaporates.
In turn a micro climate is created within the garment – where overheating is controlled through the venting of side zips.
The correct sizing and a knowledge of how the ventilation zips are used ensures the user gets the best from the garment. The simplicity determines there is little to go wrong, no pores to clog up or laminates to wear off. Where possible, we have avoided patches, needless pockets with unnecessary zips, or fancy trims all of which detract from the performance.
